Giveback
Nail the Match was built on a simple belief: when God blesses your work, you don't keep all of it. You give some back. That's what tithing means to me — the first part goes to Him, and the rest takes care of your family and your business.
So here's our promise: we tithe 10% of your monthly plan to charity — your choice, or Shar's Hands if you don't pick one — every month you're with us. When you sign up as a pro, you can name the charity closest to your heart, and that's where your tithe goes for as long as you're subscribed. Don't pick one? Your donation goes to Shar's Hands, a small all-volunteer nonprofit right here in Chester County that helps local families with food, bills, and the basics when life gets hard.
Why does this matter so much to me? Because I've been on the other side of it. I grew up in a poor family. We saved all month long just to be able to buy one pizza — with no toppings. That was a big night for us. That monthly pizza was a real treat — and to this day, I still order pizza from Penny's Red Top in Limerick. It's still my favorite. And there wasn't money for meat at every dinner, either. Most weeks it was the same rotation: spaghetti with no meatballs, mac and cheese with no meat, beanie weenies… and Vienna sausage and Shake 'n Bake chicken — two things I'll never eat again.
We didn't have the money to air-condition the whole house, so we'd turn on one window unit thirty minutes before bed, and we all slept in that one room. My dad worked four jobs and my mom worked two — they needed that sleep. In the winter, heating our 1,200-square-foot home cost more than we had, so we heated with a wood-burning stove, and we all slept in the room next to it to stay warm.
My mom always told us to get ready to work multiple jobs, because we weren't born into riches. We were the "lower class," and there was a long way up from there. So that's what I did — I paid for my own school, and I worked full time while I finished my degree.
I was raised by the janitor to respect everyone in every role — and how valuable each task is. Just remember that the next time your toilet is clean at a public facility: because someone had to clean it, and you didn't want it to be you.
Today, by God's grace, I can order two pizzas with all the toppings and not think twice. I don't ever want to forget what the first one felt like, and I don't want to be the kind of business owner who forgets the families still saving up for theirs — the families still sleeping in one room to afford the night.
If a Nail the Match subscription can put food on somebody's table while it puts jobs on yours, then everybody wins — and that's exactly the kind of business I want to run.
Today, I'm blessed with 6 kids and a wonderful husband. So it's time that the janitor's daughter — who beat all the odds and became the CEO/COO — gives back to those who need help. Because, when you lived it, you reach back in the fire to help those who need it.
Thank you for being part of it.
