Being the Only Pro We Recommend in Your ZIP: What Changes Day to Day
There's another post on this blog about exclusivity — what it costs and how to decide between a ZIP and a county. This one answers the follow-up question we hear from pros who are close to buying it: fine, but what actually changes? The honest answer is that exclusivity is not a badge, a listing upgrade, or a line in a directory. It's a routing rule. Nail the Match recommends pros through three routes, and holding exclusivity rewrites all three for your service in your territory. The pricing itself lives on the plans page: $100 a month per ZIP code, or $500 a month per county, added to any plan.
Route one: the instant matcher
On a normal plan, a homeowner who requests your service may be matched with up to 3 pros — a short list, but a list. In a ZIP where you hold exclusivity for that service, the list has one name on it: yours. The homeowner sees you as the match, your information is the only information they receive, and the conversation starts with you as the recommendation rather than as an option. There's no quote race because there's nobody else in it.
Route two: property-manager RFPs
Property managers post projects — unit turns, repairs, portfolio work — and get matched with up to 3 pros for the service and area, free on their side. Exclusivity applies there too: where you hold it, an RFP for your service matches you alone. For pros who like manager work — repeat relationships, steady turns, less marketing per dollar of revenue — that's the route where being the only name compounds fastest. The manager's side of the system is on the Property Managers page.
Route three: social recommendations
The third route is the neighborhood itself. When a homeowner asks in a local Facebook group or on Nextdoor and Nail the Match recommends a pro for that service in that ZIP, exclusivity decides whose name gets said. Without it, recommendations can name any matched pro in the area. With it, your company is the recommendation — in the matcher, in RFPs, and in the groups where the asking happens. One name, every route, every time.
What exclusivity does not do
It doesn't create demand — if nobody in the ZIP needs your service this week, exclusivity can't change that, and your keyword plan (which keeps running; exclusivity is an add-on, not a replacement) is what shows you the asks that do happen. It doesn't cover services you didn't list or ZIPs you didn't claim. And it's first-come: if another company already holds your service in a ZIP you want, that part stays theirs and the rest is yours — which is why the ZIPs that matter to you are worth claiming before a competitor has the same thought. More mechanics are covered in the FAQ.
Who it fits, day to day
Exclusivity pays best for pros whose strength shows up in a one-on-one conversation: strong reviews, a tight service area, a schedule they'd rather fill with fewer, better jobs. If your advantage is being the cheapest of five, a short list serves you fine. If your advantage is being trusted, being the only name is worth $100 a ZIP. Start with the ZIPs that already produce your best work — you can watch exactly how the routing changes from the first request that lands.
Questions & Answers
If I hold exclusivity, do other pros still show up for my service in my ZIP?
No. For your service inside your ZIP or county, you are the only company we recommend — on the instant matcher, in property-manager RFPs, and in our social referrals. A homeowner requesting that service there gets one name: yours.
Does exclusivity replace my keyword plan?
No — it's an add-on to a plan, not a replacement. Your keyword plan keeps watching local groups and boards and emailing your matches twice a day. Exclusivity governs who gets recommended; the plan governs what you see.
What does exclusivity cost?
$100 a month per ZIP code, or $500 a month per county, added to any monthly keyword plan — Starter $49, Plus $99, or Pro $149 a month. It's month to month, like the plans.
What if another company already holds the ZIP I want?
Exclusivity is first-come. If another company holds part of the territory you want for your service, that part stays theirs and the rest is yours. We'll tell you exactly where you stand before you pay for a territory.
Does exclusivity guarantee me jobs?
No — it guarantees that every recommendation for your service in your territory points to you alone. It doesn't create demand, and winning the work still depends on your response, your price, and your reviews. What it removes is the comparison.
